Arizona metallic hardcore band The Hostage Situation have broken an 18-year silence with the release of their incendiary new track, ‘The Last Leg.’ Mixed and mastered by Kevin Antreassian (The Dillinger Escape Plan/The Sawtooth Grin), the intense single blends aggressive instrumentals with harsh call-and-response vocals, delivering a volatile anthem of urgent rebellion.

The last time we released music, it was on a MySpace player. Eighteen years later, no expectations means no disappointment,” says Brandon Kellum, lead vocalist of The Hostage Situation. Reflecting on the band’s new single ‘The Last Leg,’ Kellum captures the zeitgeist: “We’re living through chaotic times. Sometimes it feels like we’re chasing distraction as a way to ignore our inevitable oblivion.”

Alongside the release, the band has announced their highly anticipated annual reunion show scheduled for July 13, 2024, at The Rebel Lounge in Phoenix, AZ. The event continues their tradition of bringing together bands from the early 2000s to support a worthy cause. Proceeds from the concert will benefit Rosie’s House, a nonprofit organization that provides free music education and meals to underprivileged youth.

**About The Hostage Situation:**

Formed in 2006, The Hostage Situation quickly became a force within the metalcore scene, known for their intense live shows, southern hardcore inspired riffs, and thought-provoking lyrics delivered with a tongue-in-cheek demeanor. After a long hiatus, the band started hosting annual reunion shows in 2017, using their platform to benefit the Arizona local nonprofit Rosie’s House. Now, with the release of ‘The Last Leg,’ The Hostage Situation amplifies the chaos with a raw and powerful anthem that nods to their early chaotic hardcore roots while pushing the boundaries of contemporary heavy music.

“The Last Leg”

by The Hostage Situation

Oh let us live

In the eye of the storm

Oblivious

But not free from harm

I stood alone in the dust

Under an indifferent sun

Breathing the ash of purpose

The taste of rust on splintered tongue

Hell was in the silence

Hell was in the words unsaid

So sick, so sick of trying

Time forgives but only death forgets

And we thought we built our shelter

But our flesh could not uphold

The punishment of 8 billion voices

Afraid of the unknown

So tie down hope

Foundations made of bone

Yeah, tie down hope

Cause what you love

Ain’t what you own

Hunger for distraction

Thirsting for the end

I’ll fight this hopelessness with a bottled revenge

‘Cause there’s no line between when passion stops and apathy begins

Inside my heart

Inside my mind

Inside my soul

I tried

Couldn’t find the forest for the trees

How could I have been so blind

Oh let us live

In the eye of the storm

Oblivious

But not free from harm

Every call warrants a response. Formed in 2006, Phoenix, AZ’s The Hostage Situation emerged as a counterpoint to the wave of metal bands chasing oblivion in the form of who could be the heaviest, fastest, and most technical. Opting for musical dynamics and thought provoking lyrics delivered with a tongue-in-cheek demeanor, the group created a community of misfits, often being the odd ones out on shows but managing to win over crowds with their high energy live shows that encourage audience participation.

Blending technical metal with southern rock and a punk ethos, The Hostage Situation released the 11 song album “When I Say Go” then immediately took the road with acts such as The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza, Arsonists Get All The Girls, and Arizona local favorites, The Irish Front. Hailed by Alternative Press as a “breakout band”, the group lived fast and died young, going on hiatus in 2010.

In 2017, The Hostage Situation returned to the stage for what was planned to be a one night only reunion. After the success of the night, the band turned it into an annual event boasting reunions from multiple other bands of the “MySpace era”. Proceeds from each show benefit Rosie’s House, a non profit providing free music education and hot meals to underprivileged youth. With new music, new merchandise, and increasingly impressive turn outs, the band continues to give back to the community that gave a lifetime of memories to them.
