New single from Brazilian band Signo 13 brings good
doses of synthwave and post punk.
“Lápides Que Transpiram Spoilers” is an invitation to the listener
to reflect on the relationship between human beings and death (2024)
The fourth single from the album “Augúrios”, the track features electronic
beats and synthesizers, which create a dancing and chaotic aura where the lyrics
written by Leandro Porko from the band Baixo Calão, who also helped compose the
instrumental part of the song. With a video recorded in the Federal District, directed
by Blas Roig, a photographer who has collaborated on several occasions with the
band, he captured the images at the mythical “Espaço Cultural Renato Russo” where
bands like Legião Urbana and Plebe Rude began their careers.
The cover art is a collage made by Raíssa Geovanna (RASHA) and here she
talks about what this experience was like “It was an honor to be able to create this
art from such a symbolic letter. Among so many symptoms of this malaise in the city,
succumbing to the potential of creating something even through venting, reminds us
of how life demands that we reinvent ourselves, seek strength to see something
beautiful even when the environment and conditions are not favorable.”
One of the characteristics of Signo 13’s work is precisely that it is always
looking for new partnerships, whether in the production of graphic arts, compositions,
training, audiovisual, performances… it is a way of creating, photographing an era
and perpetuating ties with other artists who identify with and admire each other, all
based on friendship, cooperation and do-it-yourself. Leandro Porcko, writing partner
for this single, also distilled some words about this interstate and unlikely creative
encounter: “What can we say about this Borromean knot of which distance/subjects
involved/and ideas converge? I believe that the finished music translates all of this.
Especially the speed of how everything happened, Franz Oliveira from Vozes do
Abismo festival, gave me Felipe Rodrigues contact details when we were chatting
and I commented about making a punk post, etc, etc. Then I got Felipe’s contact
information. As quickly as an app message, and through affinities, I sent the lyrics for
him to evaluate, and he disappeared and appeared with the sound ready! Therefore,
I believe that the spoilers were our dialogues through messages that shortened the
geographic distance and made the other contingencies involved in the process
happen! Thus came lyrics, sound and clip with art from other people that reinforced
the whole idea!! Thank you very much, my brother Felipe (the guy who gave life and
body to a lyric destined for limbo)! Let other sounds come!! Long live Healthy (mental
and physical)!!”
The album “Augúrios” will only be released at the end of 2024 and you can
follow this progress on the bandcamp page. “Lápides que transpiram spoilers”
represents the continuity and plurality of the Signo 13, which continues to reflect the
contemporary panorama in its art , text and music.
