SIX TRACKS DEEP. VERY LITTLE SUNLIGHT.
After wandering through the suffocating streets of Paris on “Sun Decay” and watching revenge erase the line between victim and tormentor on “Mutt”, French doom/grunge metal power trio CLEGANE now reveal the complete picture.
Their third album, ‘Ocean of Black Thoughts‘, is out now via Almost Famous.
Three years after ‘White of the Eye’, CLEGANE return with more grunge in their bloodstream, tighter song structures and a broader musical range. The vocals move closer to the surface, but the atmosphere remains unmistakably theirs: thick, oppressive and permanently shadowed by anxiety, addiction and depression.
Across six tracks, direct impact and slower-burning tension coexist. The record moves from the immediate hostility of “Mutt” and the stoner-meets-noise exhaustion of “Sun Decay” to the blues-inflected “Luminose”, the gradual ascent of “A Room Full of Strangers” and the crushing final descent of the title track.
Six fragments. Six portraits. Different ways of finding yourself staring back from the same dark water.
… DOOM, GRUNGE AND THREE ALBUMS OF INNER WEATHER..
Formed in the Paris region, CLEGANE have developed a language in which doom’s weight meets grunge’s damaged nerves and the physical directness of a power trio.
Ocean of Black Thoughts follows Funeral at Sea and White of the Eye, reconnecting the band with its past while pushing its sound into more concise and varied territory. The album was mixed by Olivier Millot, who previously worked on CLEGANE’s first EP, and mastered by Thibault Chaumont at Deviant Lab.
Visual artist Tib Gordon continues to shape the band’s world through entirely handmade artwork. Like the music, the new visual identity retains CLEGANE’s unmistakable mark while breaking with the codes surrounding their previous releases.
The destination may have changed. The weather has not.
