MICAH AND THE MIRRORS “They Might Say” savors new found independence

Micah and the Mirrors’ fourth music video, “They Might Say”, from their Spaghetty Town Records debut album Liar’s Chair, is an introspective romp through a whiskey soaked color scheme. The video’s visual narrative immediately captures a desperate solitude and also a defiant independence from a life severed from old ties.

Belting out the lyrics “I don’t care what they might say!” and “not ashamed that we’re estranged!” band leader Micah Morris savagely defends his new found independence. Following the collapse of his old band of 11 years, a divorce, and subsequent loss of his house, and his dogs (and literally everything else you need to make a great country song), “They Might Say” is a nostalgic glammed up ’60s and ’70s style ballad that’s strong enough to stand with the classics of days gone by.

The video is another collaboration with director Jarrett Barnes, and the proof is in the autumnal toned caramel colorings on full display. Following the pattern of Morris performing alongside his reflection in mirror images, the visual style continues the trope seen in previous videos “Yokohama Mama” and “Hungry Hungry Heart,” also filmed and directed by Barnes.

Musically, this track is playfully summarized by producer Randy Michael’s statement that “it sounds like Harry Nilsson if he grew up watching MTV.” “They Might Say” is a glorious gallop into the somewhat familiar, yet deeply personal territory for Micah and the Mirrors.

Micah and the Mirrors are currently planning tour dates for Q1 of 2027.

“In a sense, this record has been overdue for a long time, “ shares MICAH AND THE MIRRORS frontman Micah Morris.  “That said, I don’t think it ever would have come to be without the utter and complete destruction of my previous life. In the midst of achieving one of my life goals with Fast Eddy, touring Japan, the band itself imploded. This wasn’t long after the demise of my marriage, and loss my home, my dogs, and of a huge swath of friends.”

“The day after Fast Eddy broke up,” Morris continues, “I played the last show in Tokyo alone on a Friday night. I called Dan Dixon the next day and booked studio time for this record. I hadn’t written much of it at all yet, just had some scraps of ideas, and some old songs to cannibalize, but I knew I had to jump, I didn’t have a choice.

I had another week and a half in Japan by myself, and so I started piecing some ideas together in that time. Despite the trauma of the breakup, I managed to experience some amazing adventures there, guided by black and white cats, which happened to be hanging outside of every place that I stayed during the remainder of my time.

When I came home though, I hit an all time low, and felt like I could see myself burning alive on a chair that people had propped up for me. I spent many late nights alone looking out my window towards the radio towers in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, staring into a void. I played piano and guitar until the bright hours of the morning, and at times did nothing but sit there and think.

I was however amazed to see the friends and family that came through for me in that time. Some of which came out of nowhere, and some who I’d never expect. With their support I found the strength to start over and not give up on my lifetime of work with music.

After discussing the record with Randy Michael, he agreed to help produce it. In a number of months, between him, Dan Dixon and I, we pieced together the bones of this thing.

I went to Atlanta in July of 2025, and brought my brother Jeremy to play drums. We worked tirelessly through the Georgia summer heat with Dan’s air conditioning barely holding on for dear life. But within 10 days we finished recording.

Less than a year since my old band broke up, I’m now sitting on Liar’s Chair, and you’re holding it in your hands as we speak. I can say at least I proved it to myself that I can do it. Never let anything stop you from doing the best you can, even if it seems like your life is nothing but a pile of ashes, those ashes really can nourish your own rebirth. This is the first step into my new life, and a new future with Micah and the Mirrors.”

Born with Texas rhythm and raised on Rocky Mountain grit, Micah Morris has been kicking around the American rock n’ roll circuit long enough to earn every scar. You might know him from Fast Eddy or his earlier Six Shooter days, the kind of bands that smelled like gasoline and heartbreak. Now he’s steering into new territory with Micah and the Mirrors.

Morris comes from serious stock. His old man played with Austin staples like Christopher Cross and Double Trouble, his mom worked with Carole King, and somewhere up the family tree swings a Monkee named Michael Nesmith. That kind of lineage doesn’t hand you talent, but it sure lights the fuse.

From busking Denver sidewalks to cranking amps in sweaty dive bars, Morris built his sound on the long road: half punk, half rock ’n’ roll salvation. Fast Eddy gave him a taste of global airplay when Little Steven’s Underground Garage crowned their track “Take a Look” the Coolest Song in the World. But you can tell he’s never been one to sit still, too many ideas, too many riffs buzzing in his head.

So he packed up, hit Atlanta, and cut his first solo batch with Randy Michael (The Booze, Solid State Radio) behind the board and Dan Dixon twisting the knobs.

Micah and the Mirrors isn’t nostalgia, it’s a continuation. The sound of a lifer still chasing that perfect, reckless moment when the needle drops and the night feels endless.
