DieHumane emerged at the end of 2020 in Galveston, Texas, founded by videomaker Joshua Vargas and multi-instrumentalist Greg Hilligiest. The band was born as a creative therapy during the isolation of the pandemic, leading to their debut album, ‘The Grotesque’. DieHumane’s sound is a unique blend of doom, jazz, industrial, blues, and prog, reminiscent of a collision between Celtic Frost, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, and Type O Negative, with a touch of Pink Floyd.
New EP and Collaborations:
DieHumane is back with a new EP featuring prominent metal figures like Testament’s Chuck Billy, former Mushroomhead’s Jeffrey Nothing, and drummer Will Hunt. This project continues the journey begun with ‘The Grotesque’, delving deeper into themes of loss and suicide, while also bridging to future works.
Interview Highlights:
In the Metal Hammer interview, Josh Vargas discusses the origins of DieHumane, their artistic influences, and the message behind their music. Key influences include Trent Reznor, Tom Warrior, Death Grips, Meshuggah, Tool, and Type O Negative, among others.
EP Recording Sessions:
The band members recorded their parts from their home studios, contributing to a deeply personal and introspective creation process. Vargas shares insights into the evolution of their sound, balancing heavy and abstract elements, and maintaining unpredictability in their music.
Future Vision:
DieHumane views their project as an evolving art form rather than just a band, with a planned trajectory and a clear vision for each album. They aim to engage a broad audience while staying true to their artistic integrity.
Live Performances:
Fans can expect visually and energetically captivating live shows, designed to extend the artistic experience of their music, album art, and videos. DieHumane is also looking forward to participating in unique events like metal cruises.
Memorable Moments and Advice:
Vargas recounts significant milestones, including collaborations with renowned artists and recognition in major publications. He advises emerging bands to either integrate into the metal scene or boldly contribute to its evolution, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and innovation.
