DISCONNECTED SOULS’ conceptual debut album Fragments of Consciousness journeys through a plethora of genre influences and styles in the form of their own dynamic, cinematic and experimental modern metal soundscapes. From adventures in gothic fantasy realms to deadly club settings to a dystopian celebration of the world’s end, DISCONNECTED SOULS deliver an intriguing take on the human experience. The band now present their album on CD format via Layered Reality Productions. In addition, the band have also released an instrumental version of the album today on all streaming platforms.
Guitarist/vocalist/composer Holly Royle comments:
“Following the wonderful reception to Fragments of Consciousness after its release in the beginning of 2024, we’re thrilled to share some additional content from the FOC world. Our new music videos for ‘Symbiont’ and ‘Monachopsis’ were filmed in the incredible setting of a historic Welsh estate and allow us to explore new imagery as we bring those tracks to life. Our instrumental album release allows our musical arrangements to be heard in a different light, and perhaps listeners will notice a few instruments or parts they haven’t discovered previously. And, finally, we’re super excited to have Fragments of Consciousness available on CD format (we’ve had several requests!).
We are incredibly grateful for the support and love we have received with FOC, and we wanted to continue to celebrate it. Our ‘Monachopsis’ video also marks the end of this chapter; FOC is part I of II, and it is time for us to begin telling the next chapters of this tale.”
The band’s debut EP Warring Elements concluded with the track “Mischievous Spirits”. In Fragments of Consciousness, we follow a Mischievous Spirit as it seeks to make sense of the human world. Beginning with “Delirium”, this deadly night club-esque anthem draws together the heavy with hip-hop elements all entwined in the outfit’s eclectic style. “Dissonant Whispers” and “Petrichor” offer ethereal soundscapes, the former with a dark fantasy twist – beware the sirens. “Plague Rats” unleashes the thundering heavy while “Silence of the Doves” dives into the chaotic with a progressive arrangement and haunting melodies. “Fragments” featuring Jeremy Valentyne (NEW YEARS DAY), is a melancholy synth-pop offering that is followed by the jazzy sounds of “Monachopsis”; the demise of the Earth but not as you know it. The concluding “Iyashikei” brings an ambient end.
About DISCONNECTED SOULS:
DISCONNECTED SOULS emerged in 2018 out of a desire to incorporate and blend the three great pillars of music, electronic, classical and metal. Following their debut EP Warring Elements in 2020, the band have since been releasing a diverse array of singles, leading up to the debut album. The quintet based out of Chester, England, strive to create a distinctive sound that draws upon the depths of metal, while playing with tones and textures. Each member brings a diverse range of musical interests to the table and the resulting sound encompasses a wide variety of instrumental and vocal styles. DISCONNECTED SOULS take their name from the growing disconnect between humans; both from each other but also within ourselves, as well as the increasing rift with the natural world.
