Elegeion to Unveil Epic Music Video for “Sombre Skies” on September 27, Featuring One of the Longest Multi-Location Doom Metal Videos Ever!

Melbourne, Australia – After a 17-year hiatus, Gothic Doom Metal legends Elegeion have made a triumphant return with their acclaimed 2022 album, Plight of the Heretic. Known for their haunting blend of Gothic Doom, Depressive Suicidal Black Metal (DSBM), and classical influences, the band is now set to release a groundbreaking music video for the track Sombre Skies on September 27, 2024, at 10 PM AEST.

The video, filmed across nine locations and running 14 minutes and 15 seconds, promises to be one of the longest multi-location doom metal videos ever produced—certainly the longest in the Gothic Doom genre. Taking two years to complete, the visual spectacle is designed to complement the album’s emotional depth and sonic intricacy.

Formed in 1995 by frontman Anthony Kwan under the name Transcendence, Elegeion quickly gained international attention with their 1996 demo Induction to Eternal Rest…, leading to their signing with Candlelight Records. The band’s debut MCD, Odyssey into Darkness, was released in 1997 under their new moniker. Elegeion’s distinctive style—marked by slow, melancholic guitars, violin and cello interludes, and both male and female vocals—was fully realized in their 2000 debut album Through the Eyes of Regret and the 2005 follow-up The Last Moment, which featured artwork by renowned artist Travis Smith and showcased the band’s signature atmospheric sound.

Though the band remained largely dormant in the years that followed, Kwan returned to Australia in 2018, re-forming Elegeion and eventually recording Plight of the Heretic. Released in May 2022, the album was met with enthusiasm, garnering thousands of views on YouTube and widespread radio play. The music video for The Blazing Tempest released later that year with similar success, proving that Elegeion still commands a loyal and growing global fanbase.

In 2023, the band supported international acts such as Japan’s Sigh and the UK’s Esoteric, cementing their presence on the live stage once again. Looking ahead, Elegeion is preparing to enter the studio later this year to record a new album, as they continue to solidify their legacy in the Gothic Doom scene.

Don’t miss the premiere of Sombre Skies on September 27—a video two years in the making, poised to be a visual and auditory journey through the depths of doom.

For fans of: Gothic Doom, DSBM, and melancholic metal in the vein of Katatonia, My Dying Bride, and Draconian.
