“Leafy Greens” is a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the political culture in Northern Ireland. It critiques the entrenched scapegoating mentality, which many hold onto with pride, avoiding the responsibility needed to achieve genuine peace.
The reference to leafy greens, seizing the means of production, and overthrowing the king highlights the irony of movements rooted in compassion being perceived as threats. This shakes people’s cultivated identities, making these movements seem like an enforced moral communism—a notion both laughable and potentially dangerous.
The song satirizes automatic identity responses and misguided passions, questioning how we find comfort in conflict and feel threatened by peace. It embodies irony, contradiction, sarcasm, and hypocrisy—an anti-propaganda propaganda. “Leafy Greens” invites you to dance like a Stańczyk fool in the king’s court.
Leafy Greens, we like our knees.
