San Francisco, CA –Two things can be true at once. We can be realistic about the present and trust that things will turn out well. San Francisco post-rock/shoegaze act ANALOG DREAM explores that middle ground on their new EP The Shape Of Us which is out on August 20, 2026 via Soundvsystem Records.
1. Dystopian
2. The Shape of Us
3. Velvet Knives
4. By a Thread
5. 8.13
That duality of cynicism and hope collides in their music. On the energetic opening track “Dystopian,” the band climbs through the darkness of our current socio-political state, and looks toward the light signaling to others that a way out is possible. On the shoegaze-influenced “The Shape Of Us,” Analog Dream traces the outlines of past relationships, channeling a feeling of introspection and self-awareness. It’s that moment you realize that time has a way of shifting things beyond your own control. Midway through the EP, ‘Velvet Knives’ turns the focus to betrayal by those we hold closest. “By A Thread” and “8.13” deepen that emotional landscape, rounding out a cohesive listen that moves between tension and release. These songs are landmarks of a life lived, the experiences that quietly shape who we are from the inside out.
The five-song release serves as a new direction for Analog Dream. The use of guitar and synth textures are ethereal, showing us what’s possible, as the bass and drums keep our feet firmly planted. The band shares that the EP was “about capturing a feeling.” Calling it their “most melodic, heavy, darkest, and most emotionally resonant release yet,” the band made a true effort to explore this sonic territory. “While you can still hear traces of the hardcore and punk roots we grew up on, we’ve matured as songwriters, expanded our use of dynamics, drums, and backing vocals, and ultimately created what feels like the most complete version of Analog Dream so far,” the band says.
Analog Dream was founded by Rich Cannon and Jorge Sandoval, who started the project when they were roommates. Releasing several singles and EPs over the years, it’s The Shape Of Us that brings the act’s true sound and potential to the forefront. The addition of Caleb Dolister (drums), Kevin Fayle (synth) and Sarah Reinke (bass/vocals) sees the five-piece band expanding Cannon and Sandoval’s core sound. Analog Dream is quickly becoming one of San Francisco’s most exciting independent acts.
The EP features the singles “Dystopian,” “The Shape Of Us” and “Velvet Knives,” which garnered strong radio support from stations including Radio Free BK, WUML, WPRK and KSER. The Shape Of Us arrives August 20th on Soundvsystem Records, with a limited 180g 12″ clear vinyl available for pre-order now on Bandcamp.

Analog Dream makes indie rock for the widescreen. What began as a two-person studio project in San Francisco has evolved into a five-piece built on layered guitars and analog grit. From early acclaim on Live105 to their 2026 signing with NYC’s Soundvsystem Records, the band has consistently pushed their sound toward something bolder and more intentional.
Their latest work finds the sweet spot between shoegaze atmosphere and raw indie-rock energy, tackling everything from fractured personal histories to the “soul-suck” of modern corporate culture. With a new EP on the horizon and a tour in the works, Analog Dream is officially more focused than ever.
