Death Metal pioneer Rick Rozz of Left To Die recently joined The Zach Moonshine Show on Metal Devastation Radio for an in-depth interview exploring the origins of DEATH, the legacy of Chuck Schuldiner, and the upcoming Left To Die release Initium Mortis.
Featuring original DEATH members Rick Rozz and Terry Butler alongside Matt Harvey of EXHUMED / GRUESOME and Gus Rios of GRUESOME, Left To Die continues to celebrate and preserve the earliest era of Death Metal through both live performances and newly reconstructed material from the original Mantas and DEATH demo years.
During the interview, Rozz discussed the band’s upcoming album Initium Mortis, arriving July 17, 2026 via Relapse Records, as well as the newly released single “Archangel,” upcoming international touring plans, classic guitar tones, and memories from the early Florida Death Metal scene.
A major focus of the conversation centered around Matt Harvey’s efforts to painstakingly relearn and reconstruct the original 1983 and 1984 demo material.
“Matt literally went down the rabbit hole and relearned all those old tunes,” Rozz explained during the broadcast. “The songs are probably 90% like they were back then. It’s basically a modern sounding demo.”
Rozz also reflected on the raw nature of the original recordings and the influence of bands like Slayer and Venom on the earliest DEATH material.
