KING PARROT’s Matthew “Youngy” Young Talks New Album, Touring with Pantera, and the Spirit of Aussie Grind Madness

Aussie grind-thrash maniacs King Parrot are back with a vengeance — and frontman Matthew “Youngy” Young joined The Zach Moonshine Show on Metal Devastation Radio for a wild, uncensored live interview on the 4th of July. With the release of their new record, A Young Person’s Guide To , and a massive North American tour alongside Pantera, Amon Amarth, Acid BathPentagram, and Weedeater, the band is riding high on momentum, mischief, and mayhem.

From road stories to personal losses, Youngy opened up about everything that fuels the Parrot machine.

The New Record: A Tribute, A Joke, A Masterstroke

While the title A Young Person’s Guide To may sound like a self-help pamphlet, the reality is pure King Parrot: unhinged, tongue-in-cheek, and deeply personal.

“It’s probably the most unassuming artwork for the kind of music that it is,” Youngy said, laughing. “But that’s what we do, man — it’s tongue-in-cheek, it’s King Parrot.”

The album also serves as a tribute to Boyd Synnott , the band’s longtime visual collaborator and close friend who tragically passed in 2023.

“He was the sixth member of the band,” Youngy reflected. “He created our first EP artwork, Dead Set , Ugly Produce , tons of merch. When he passed, we knew we had to honor him. That artwork was his vision, and we’re proud to carry it forward.”

Touring With Legends: From Pantera to Acid Bath

King Parrot isn’t just hitting the road — they’re going full-throttle into some of the biggest tours of the year.

“It’s kind of mind-blowing,” Youngy said. “We’re this grind-thrash band from Australia, and suddenly we’re doing stadiums with Pantera and Amon Amarth.”

But it’s not just the big stages. They’re also jumping into cult-status territory by opening for the legendary Acid Bath and Pentagram in Brooklyn — in front of 2,500 rabid fans.

“We saw one open slot and went for it,” Youngy said. “Next thing we know, we’re on the poster. Totally insane.”

New drummer Max Dangerfield (yes, that’s his real name) will be making his U.S. debut on that stage — then diving headfirst into an even bigger amphitheater tour.

“His first U.S. show is with Acid Bath. A week later, he’s playing 15,000-capacity venues with Pantera. Not bad, right?”

Music Videos and Trainspotting Toilets

King Parrot’s music videos have become legendary in their own right — absurd, cinematic, and full of punk-rock chaos. Their latest for “F * You and the Horse You Rode In On”** is no exception.

“We recreated the toilet scene from Trainspotting . Just a ridiculous thing to do — but so much fun,” Youngy said. “We road-tested the song at Knotfest and the crowd was singing it back before it was even released. We knew we had something.”

Housecore Records: Family, Not a Label

The band’s bond with Phil Anselmo and Housecore Records goes deep.

“It’s not like any other label,” Youngy explained. “Phil and Kate support our vision 100%. No pressure to change, no B.S. Just, ‘Do what you do — and get better at it.’”

They also use Housecore HQ as a U.S. home base — offering rehearsal space, gear, and a launchpad for touring.

“For a band from the other side of the world, that kind of support is everything. It’s a dream setup.”

Advice to Young Bands: Network, Tour, Say YES

Youngy offered some blunt advice to up-and-coming bands:

“Tour your ass off. Don’t just play your city — build a circuit. Network. Be cool. Say yes to every opportunity.”

King Parrot’s early U.S. tours were rough — sometimes playing to seven people. But that grind paved the way for playing theaters with Down , festivals like Housecore Horror Fest , and landing where they are now.

“If you want it, you’ve got to commit. Say yes. Make the sacrifice. That’s how we did it.”

The King Parrot Sound: Uncompromising and Unmistakable

“We’re not just grindcore,” Youngy said. “We’ve got thrash, hardcore punk, stoner doom — but it all sounds like King Parrot. People hear us and go, ‘Yep, that’s them.’ We’re proud of that.”

From Aussie pub shows to world stages, King Parrot has stayed true to their filthy, feral core — and it’s paying off.

Catch Them On Tour

King Parrot is currently booking a 40+ date U.S. and Canada tour, with more dates being added daily.

“Check kingparrot.net for all the latest,” Youngy said. “And grab A Young Person’s Guide To from Housecore Records — it’s out now on splatter vinyl with killer bundles.”
