Channeling fire from the San Francisco garage implosion, feels from ’60s heartbreakers, and brush strokes from the ambient realm, REVERSE DEATH finds a tape-warped landscape of beauty and destruction to call home. Songwriter Daniel Onufer’s blurry new gem is a 21 minute EP’s worth of pure hocus-pocus, and it is the band’s first collection of tape and tube-scorched songs since their critically acclaimed debut, “Stretching to Infinity.” Blooming with spectral drone, down-tuned garage, and ambient pop, this release features their longest song to date—a 12 minute, three-part hypnotic pop odyssey that drifts through blue reveries and hissing doom, eventually burning out in a glorious free-jazz meltdown.
The best things come in pairs of course, like shoes… or, eye glasses. Can you imagine walking around wearing one shoe and a fucking monocle? Us neither.
REFLECTORS is the new split series of LP’s from The Dead Currencies Label, featuring two great bands on one split release. Volume One (releasing September 19th) features brand new music from Brazilian lo-fi kings, and Built to Spill collaborators, Oruã, and hypnotic, west-coast stoner poets, Reverse Death, from Seattle.
“A shimmering, emotional display of the power of mostly-instrumental, largely ambient music, Daniel Onufer’s late 2022 musical treasure is the product of several patient hands extending to whatever gods may exist in the sky.” – KEXP
“On Reverse Death’s brainfeeder of a debut Stretching To Infinity, earth-toned acoustic drones, idyllic stream-of-consciousness spirals of electric guitar, and murmuring deep-space signals waft together into a sedative salve.” – New Commute
“creates a hypnotic middle ground between American primitive and spiritual jazz with spiraling melodies plucked from shifting layers of cello, guitars, and piano. Droney, meditative, limitless.” – Bandcamp Essential Releases
“It all sounds like yet another form of ambient Americana many are talking about these days, but Reverse Death seems to be taking that freshly-coined genre to another level.” – Medium
An earthy amalgam of American Primitive, spiritual jazz, and drone from this Seattle group is full of orbiting melodies and forest vibes.” – Bandcamp New & Notable
“Reverse Death pull off an album that’s deceptively simple on the surface, but once the listener pokes through the film on the top, the listener tumbles down endless corridors of subtle sound that’s worth the trouble getting lost.” – Raven Sings the Blues
“There’s something quite timeless about Stretching to Infinity, but it’s hard to properly contextualize the experience of losing yourself to its sensations. The music moves past genres and becomes something else entirely, an amalgam of memories and aesthetics tied up and inseparable from each other. And when the music finally dims and eases back into the shadows, your only thought is how fortunate you have been to witness its existence.” – Beats Per Minute
