Canadian technical death metal innovators Obvurt have dropped the official lyric video for “Between Past and Future,” now streaming exclusively on the Brutal Mind YouTube channel. Taken from their 2025 sophomore album, An Alternate Dimension , the track highlights the band’s fearless experimentation and Philippe Drouin’s groundbreaking double-guitar technique.
This lyric video gives fans an up-close look at the intricate guitar work and punishing rhythms that define Obvurt’s sound. The album itself splits its aggression between two styles: four tracks feature the blistering double-guitar, while five showcase Philippe’s mastery as a left-handed guitarist—a skill he painstakingly relearned after injury.
“Adding the double-guitar changed my entire approach to writing,” explains Drouin. “It opened new sonic territories. No chugs, no tremolos—just hammer-ons and pull-offs. ‘Between Past and Future’ was the first song I ever composed this way, and it’s an exploration of resilience, innovation, and pure technicality.”
