Davis on the New Single
Lead singer and lyricist Derek Davis calls Face of God “the most inspirational song I have ever written.” Reflecting the band’s Christian faith,
“The song is about faith, hope, and redemption. Sometimes, a spiritual awakening is needed to better understand who we are and why we’re here. I hope that when people hear this song or watch the video, they find peace in their hearts. I believe God gave me my talent and has led me to the truth. I am thankful every day for the blessings I’ve received.” .- Derek Davis

AboutBabylon A.D.
Formed in 1987, Babylon A.D. hails from the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. Original members Derek Davis (vocalist/songwriter), guitarist John Matthews, and Ron Freschi (along with drummer James Pacheco and bassist Rob Reid) met in high school before they began playing together as “The Persuaders.” They made a name for themselves with powerful live performances and catchy songwriting, becoming one of the top drawing original Hard Rock bands in Northern California.
In 1989, the band changed their name to “Babylon A.D.” and caught the attention of Arista Records President and music mogul Clive Davis, who signed them after a live showcase in Los Angeles, thanks to their impressive three-song demo and homemade video. Just before their self-titled album “Babylon A.D.” was released in 1990, John Matthews departed the band and was replaced by Dan De La Rosa, another high school friend. The album included hard rock classics like “Bang Go The Bells,” “Hammer Swings Down,” and “The Kid Goes Wild,” featuring Screaming Sam Kinison, which was the trailer song and promotional video for Orion Pictures’ RoboCop 2. The band scored three #1 songs on Metal Radio and reached Gold status, spending 38 weeks on the Billboard Top 200, peaking at #46. Their second album, Nothing Sacred (1992), produced by the legendary Tom Werman, produced two more top-ten metal rockers, “Bad Blood” and “So Savage the Heart.” Their constant touring and several MTV videos made them a fan favorite.
In 1999, the band released Live In Your Face on Apocalypse Records, a compilation of live tracks from various cities across America. The release of American Blitzkrieg in 2002 followed, with both records being well received by critics and fans alike. In 2008, Babylon A.D. “In The Beginning” was released, compiling songs from their original demo tapes that secured their recording contract with Arista Records.
After a hiatus, the band started playing and recording again in 2014, touring the U.S. and Europe, and releasing the four-song EP Lost Sessions. In 2018, John Matthews rejoined the band, and they signed with Frontiers Records for their fourth studio album, Revelation Highway. Four singles, music videos, and more touring followed into early 2020. In 2022, original members James Pacheco and Rob Reid left the band for other pursuits, but remained connected to the band’s legacy and brotherhood of friendship that has lasted for over 30 years.
PRESENT DAY…
