Wanikiya Record/Promotion is proud to announce the official entry of Basileus into its roster—one of the most original and captivating acts in today’s Italian alternative rock scene.
With their album “Inner Epopea”, the band inaugurates a collaboration that promises to be intense, full of substance, and ready to leave a deep mark on the hearts of listeners.
A JOURNEY THROUGH SOUL, SOUND, AND INNER DISCOVERY
Basileus were formed in 2021 from an idea by Djork (vocals) and Giacomo (guitar), inspired by Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. After a period of changes and experimentation, the lineup was completed with Francesco (bass) and Fabrizio (drums), finally finding their identity and a well-defined musical direction.
The name “Basileus”, discovered almost by chance on a stone belonging to the Puglian grandmother of a former member, carries deep meaning: in ancient Greece it was the title given to a king and later to the emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire. A word that embodies nobility, strength, and awareness—exactly what the band expresses through its music.
Rooted between Rimini and Pesaro, Basileus draw inspiration from the sea and the horizon, elements that have shaped their vision and their way of composing: open, instinctive, free from market rules, and loyal only to the emotional truth of their songs.
“INNER EPOPEA”: THE BIRTH OF AN INNER ADVENTURE
Recorded in 2024 in close collaboration with Tommaso “Bugo”, friend and “prodiuser” of the group, Inner Epopea represents far more than a debut album: it is a journey within oneself, a personal odyssey that each listener can interpret and live in their own way.
The album title is no coincidence: just like in ancient epics, the listener is called to step into the hero’s shoes, facing inner battles, fears, contradictions, and rebirths.
The chrysalis on the cover, drawn by Fabrizio, becomes the perfect symbol of this transformation—fragile and powerful, ephemeral and immortal at the same time.
The journey begins with “Egnathia”, an instrumental track conceived on the Puglian coast, where a fallen king faces his end only to rediscover a new beginning.
From there, the following seven tracks explore emotions, dreams, and turmoil, passing through the visions of Goya, the despair of Emma Hauck, the flights of Saint-Exupéry, the philosophical concepts of Buridan, and the rebirth “from a bitter fruit”.
Every song is a fragment of the soul—free from structures and commercial constructs, guided only by instinct and heart.
The guitars shape evocative soundscapes, the bass pulses like a psychedelic mantra, the drums explode and breathe with ritual intensity, while the voice—sometimes rough and deep, sometimes clear and spiritual—becomes the narrative element of a path that unites matter and spirit.
