BLOQUEADOR SOLAR “Coming Back Home” About Belonging, Immigration, Identity and Finding Home Within

“Coming Back Home” is a deeply personal and resonant new single from solo artist BLOQUEADOR SOLAR, exploring the universal human feeling of belonging. Rooted in themes of displacement, immigration self-discovery, and emotional connection, the song speaks to anyone who has ever felt like an outsider searching for familiarity and acceptance.

At its core, “Coming Back Home” captures the journey of trying to find where one fits in the world and the realization that home is not a place but a mix of relationships, experiences and creativity.

Bloqueador Solar reflects on years spent searching for belonging in a place where it was unfamiliar with different languages and cultures only to discover that home existed all along in family, friendships, art, and music. Both joyful and difficult moments are embraced as essential threads in that sense of home.

“Coming Back Home” aims to connect across cultures and backgrounds, offering comfort to listeners who have struggled with identity or place. The song invites audiences to recognize their own stories in its message: that belonging can be created, carried, and reclaimed wherever love and meaning are present.

Bloqueador Solar is a radiant sonic journey into roots, resilience, and healing—a kaleidoscopic celebration of culture and memory. The project was born from the creative mind of a Mexico City-born, Olympia, WA-raised artist Ulises Mariscal who sought to reconnect threads of personal history with the vibrant art and music of the Otomí people. Like a solar system of ancestral sounds and modern beats, Bloqueador Solar connects early echoes of indigenous instruments with contemporary genres, inspired by the colorful works of Otomí artisans.

The project began as a path to mending a broken heart. When immigration policies prevented Mariscal from reuniting with his beloved grandmother before her passing, this loss blossomed into an emotional odyssey of music and self-discovery. Drawing creative sparks from the experimental dreamscapes of Animal Collective, Radiohead, and Brian Eno, as well as the spirited sounds of Mexican rock legends like Café Tacvba and Porter, Bloqueador Solar crafts an experience that is both deeply personal and universally relatable.

The music resonates with themes of identity, loss, and resilience, blending Spanish and English lyrics to convey stories that are both intimate and empowering. Tracks are infused with the textures of unique native instruments, like a skull flute from Mexico that produces hauntingly beautiful bird-like sounds. The artist’s goal is to provide listeners with the same catharsis he experienced creating the music—a sense of relief and lightness, like emerging from a meaningful therapy session.

Co-produced, mixed, and mastered by Martín Selasco of the psychedelic electro-cumbia project Terror/Cactus at his home studio in Cashmere, WA, the collaboration radiates with Mexican influences and the shimmering allure of electronic and rock textures. Tracks like “Un Recuerdo” ripple with swiftly strummed guitars, handclap rhythms, and glimmering synths, conjuring a bittersweet serenity that feels like a sun-dappled memory.

“This song is a glimpse of memories and melanchdolic sounds that reflect the feeling of freedom, harmony and tranquility as a child in the world,” says Mariscal  of “Un Recuerdo.” “As we grow older, and search for those glimpses of tranquility in a chaotic capitalistic world, the hope is for listeners to find calmness and feel balance from this song.”

Beyond Bloqueador Solar, Mariscal’s creative fingerprints are everywhere. As a founding member of Seattle’s celebrated art-punk trio Tres Leches and a muralist painting vibrant stories on public walls—like those of Seattle’s new convention center—his work uplifts underrepresented voices and highlights the quiet heroes who build our communities.

With a blend of ancestral and modern influences, Bloqueador Solar invites audiences to feel, reflect, and heal while celebrating the profound connections between culture, memory, and music.
