Los Angeles based, urban-tinged alternative rock project DAMNAGE creates a space of expression for those unseen heroes of the underground who wear their hearts on their sleeve. Founded by Jonny Goood in 2019 with musical co-collaborator Tim Stewart, the project aims to give fans an outlet from feeling frustration, embodying love, harnessing hate, conquering sorrow and experiencing happiness that ultimately feels like a community of friends aligning for a purpose, to step out of the shadows to take center stage and deliver a sound that is all their own.
DAMNAGE delivers lyrics with the impassioned immediacy of HR from Bad Brains and Mike Muir from Suicidal Tendencies, with vocals that range from a penetrating rasp to the cold throb of darkwave. Encompassing all sections of life, DAMNAGE allows fans to feel the hot and the cold all at once.
Goood took up music later in life and left a career in his family’s longtime tradition of law enforcement to break from convention and create a fresh legacy for his progeny. Sharing the backstory of his growth and experience in the music industry, Goood states, “I left my life in law-enforcement to pursue music because it felt like a calling of mine. It’s hard to explain because I don’t come from a family of Musicians per se but something in my heart wanted to see if this life was for me so I quit my job on a whim packed up my belongings and shipped my car to LA and eventually found my way into the music scene playing for Joe Jonas, Miley Cyrus, the Weeknd, Wiz Khalifa, and eventually making it to the top, which was Lady Gaga.” Goood went from the humble beginnings of sleeping in his car to working with popular artists before leaving this career as a backing musician behind to dive full-time into his sole mission, DAMNAGE.
Stewart grew up a Bay Area punk kid with space in his heart for new wave and soul; Along with his own previous projects (TheBandKnives, 4th Avenue Jones), he has built a stellar career as a go-to studio and touring guitarist for many artists including Rhianna, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, as well as performing for the television shows American Idol and The Masked Singer.
DAMNAGE was conceived from the perspective of “both being damaged humans,” Goood shares. “We’ve been through hell and back and then back in hell in our own way. And this band is expressive of that. The heartbreak, trials and tribulations, the joyful experiences and not so joyful experiences in life. This is the place for us to lay the weight of the world on the floor and set it on fire.”
