Dutch industrial alt-metal force First World Appetite returns with a brand-new single, “When The Devil Collects,” arriving May 8th. The track continues the band’s relentless build toward the upcoming full-length album Angel Shades Demise, due June 12th.

Where previous releases leaned into confrontation and psychological pressure, “When The Devil Collects” pushes further into the shadows. It’s a bleak, cinematic cut built on mechanical rhythms, crushing guitars, and a vocal performance that sounds like it’s being dragged through fire and wire at the same time.

Led by Ronald de Groot, First World Appetite continues its unfiltered exploration of mental collapse, identity fracture, and the darker edges of modern existence. This is music built less for comfort and more for confrontation, the kind that stares you down instead of looking away.

ABOUT THE SOUND

First World Appetite draws from the industrial backbone of Ministry, the theatrical darkness of Marilyn Manson, and the heavy, groove-laced aggression associated with Rob Zombie, while also tapping into the modern nu metal intensity of Slipknot and Korn.

The result is a sound that is mechanical but emotional, brutal but deliberate, like a machine trying to understand what it means to feel.

ABOUT FIRST WORLD APPETITE

Formed in 2017 by Ronald de Groot, First World Appetite exists at the intersection of industrial sound design and personal psychological excavation. The project focuses on mental health, societal decay, identity breakdown, and the cost of survival in a hyper-connected world.

Previous work includes LXIV (2022) and a 2024 rework of Tom Waits’ “Goin’ Out West,” continuing a pattern of reinterpretation, confrontation, and raw emotional delivery.

This is not escapism. It’s exposure.
