Our Ancient Future
28 March 2025
GALGEBERG translates to Gallows Hill, an intersection in Oslo known historically as the site where gallows once stood, casting long shadows over the city. This dark, charged place lends its name to a three-piece death metal band, GALGEBERG, whose members might ring a bell for enthusiasts familiar with the scene. These seasoned musicians, while possibly recognized from their stints in various influential bands, gathered under the GALGEBERG banner to carve out a new narrative in the metal genre.
On a bleak November morning in 2024, the band, alongside their good friend and technician, Ruben Willem, sealed themselves within the walls of Amber Studio. Sixteen hours of relentless recording later, they emerged with Cerberus. Named after the ferocious three-headed dog of Hades, Cerberus is as monstrous and imposing as its namesake suggests, grunting and barking through layers of punishing sound that reek of sulphur.
The album is a brutal amalgamation of punk and death metal, with a sonic weight hard enough to be deemed an impact crusher. Its riffs, sharp and unrelenting as a buzzsaw, are designed to slice through indifference, making incisions deep enough to expose the underbelly of society. Cerberus lashes out with critical, pissed-off views on religion, politics, and humanity—a raw, unfiltered reflection of a world gone completely bonkers.
From the existential questioning of divine justice in “Epicurean Paradox” to the stark, unsettling portrayal of the meat industry in “Unparalleled Suffering,” each track delves into significant issues with fervor. “Ode to O’Connor” blasts a punk tribute to Sinéad O’Connor’s bold stand against institutional abuse, while “Prelude to Genocide” explores the insidious seeds of mass violence. “Kleptocrat Infestation” rips into political corruption with visceral intensity, and “Hordes of Necrovores” offers a grim view of consumerist detachment.
As Cerberus makes its way into the world, it brings with it the stench of dangling corpses and a sound potent enough to wake the dead. GALGEBERG isn’t just launching an album; they are unleashing a beast that challenges listeners to confront the madness of the contemporary world head-on. With Cerberus, GALGEBERG invites you to the intersection of history and rebellion, where the music is as potent and relentless as the lore from which it draws its name.
About GALGEBERG
Formed in the heart of Oslo, Norway, in 2022, GALGEBERG is a metal band that deftly combines the brute force of old-school death metal with the rebellious spirit of punk. The band consists of seasoned musicians Peter Vegem on guitars and lead vocals, Bård Eithun on drums, and Peter “Bosse” Boström on bass and backing vocals, each bringing a rich history from various influential bands in the metal scene, such as BLOOD TSUNAMI, DJEVEL, EMPEROR, MONGO NINJA, STUDFAUST, HELLRIDE, and BRUT BOOGALOO.
GALGEBERG’s music is characterized by its intense energy, complex lyrical themes, and the unmistakable growl of HM2 pedals that drive their sound. Their influences stretch across the Atlantic, nodding frequently towards the gritty, raw sounds of Stockholm death metal, yet they manage to infuse a unique flavor that sets them apart.
Named after a historical site in Oslo known for its dark past and mystical aura, GALGEBERG channels this intensity and mystique into their music, creating a powerful and immersive listening experience. Their commitment to addressing profound and often controversial themes—ranging from philosophical skepticism to societal injustices—demonstrates the band’s dedication not only to musical excellence but also to sparking conversation and reflection among their listeners.
With their debut album, Cerberus, GALGEBERG is set to cement their place in the metal world, promising to deliver a relentless assault on the senses paired with intellectually provocative lyrics.
