Finnish blackened death/thrash metal force Gates Open has officially unleashed their ferocious new single, The Black Scorpion, out now via Inverse Records. Blending blistering thrash riffs with the cold, dark intensity of blackened death metal, the band continues to sharpen their attack and stake their claim in the extreme metal underground.
Formed in 2023 by guitarist and composer Jere Neejärvi and vocalist Tommi Manninen, Gates Open builds on a long-standing creative partnership that dates back to 2007. Since emerging, the band has delivered a steady barrage of releases, including The Awakening (2023), Let The Night Become Your Guide (2023), and The Blood On Their Hands (2025), alongside their full-length album Voice After Silence (2024) and the EP Black Clouds Over The World (2024).
The Black Scorpion captures the band at full throttle, combining relentless riffing, razor-sharp precision, and savage vocal delivery. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Jere Neejärvi, with lyrics and vocals by Tommi Manninen, the track is a crushing showcase of the band’s evolving sound. The release is accompanied by a striking lyric video created by Asif Haroon, further amplifying the track’s dark and aggressive atmosphere.
Fans of Children Of Bodom, Norther, Arch Enemy, and Witchery will find plenty to sink their teeth into, as Gates Open delivers a sound that is both punishing and memorable.
