IMMORTALIZER – Συνέντευξη στο CrunchNewz

First I want to say this, there’s one sure thing in this world. No matter what happens in the world, Canadians do it great. Congrats for “Cut Loose”

Thank you very much! That really means a lot. I work very hard on my music, so recognition and praise is always appreciated!

Tell me briefly about the topics and themes of this new single?

Well, “Cut Loose” was intended to be IMMORTALIZER’s party anthem. I think we need that more than ever these days. So many people around the globe have been struggling during this messed up time in history, so I thought it would be good to write a song about trying to shake those feelings loose for a bit and trying to have fun and find some joy. The overall theme or idea behind the song is that life is short, so it’s important to live it up and enjoy yourself while you can. Carpe Diem!

Does the song has anything in common with your last singles?

Thematically speaking not really, no. But they are all connected in the sense of what I’m building as the IMMORTALIZER sound. I deliberately picked songs with different themes to show the bands versatility. I also wanted to show the lighter side of the band as well. Other then Lemmy the other singles were slightly darker.

Before we talk more about the upcoming full album, let’s go back in time for a moment. How Immortalizer started and what you were doing before this?

IMMORTALIZER began in 2015 as mostly a recording artist style band seeing that I write and record all the music and instruments myself. It wasn’t long after I started writing and recording that I felt I had finally found my sound. By 2016 my first EP “Unleashed” was released. Before IMMORTALIZER I was in countless bands since the age of 9. Music has been and always will be my whole life, my passion. I never saw myself doing anything other than music. I quite literally spent my entire life learning to play instruments, how to write songs, sing, record music and how to perform. I’ve had lots of setbacks and obstacles to overcome but I’m still committed to succeeding and earning my place beside my heroes.

The lockdown began in March 2020. How much were you able to compose and record or you were forced to stop then?

I’ve actually been doing quite a bit of work since Covid began. I dove even further into my music. Prior to Covid (and working with Ralf Scheepers), I was planning on recording drums and vocals in a local studio for the IMMORTALIZER album. Thinking / hoping Covid would end soon afterwards I focused on writing instead. After some time I finally decided to start recording the album from my home studio. I invested in better gear for my drumming rig and later for my vocal rig as well. I’ll forever be grateful to Ralf Scheepers for all his help, guidance, support and for very generously sharing information on his personal rig, which I later duplicated (with his permission of course). I fully admit copying him in that regard haha. I’m such a huge fan of his music and his vocal sound, so his willingness to share that with me meant so much. Ralf also began helping me with mixing, mastering and engineering work for my singles which has really polished my home recordings into professional level tracks!

Let’s now jump to the album again. I have to say that your singles until now are great! When can we wait for the release date?

Thank you so much! I’m happy you’ve been enjoying my work! I’m working hard on the album but I don’t have a release date yet. The main issue is recording everything on my own. It’s far more time consuming that way. Plus, I don’t use drum machines or things like that. I was also delayed by all the videos for the last singles and editing them all myself. However, the album is coming along nicely, so I hope to have it done soon.

Would you tell me something more about future new band members? You play all instruments but are you open about new band members?

Absolutely! I’m very excited to put together a very solid band with likeminded musicians to be able to tour and grow as a band. I enjoy collaborating with others and I’m always open to input from fellow bandmates. Thankfully, I get Ralf’s input while we work on tracks together which has been amazing. I’ve learned so much from him.

I’ve listened to your single a lot of times, and my first impression is that your work is a bit diverse, and on the newer songs there are even more influences compared to the previous stuff. Do you agree with that?

I agree. Like all artists, I was shaped by the people who influenced me the most. Especially during my formative years. I work hard not to photocopy my heroes, but there’s no denying their influence on my music. Considering the depth of the Metal catalog today, it’s nearly impossible to create new music that doesn’t sound a bit like something else. However, I try my best to keep things as original sounding as possible. Also, I enjoy keeping a lot of diversity in my music because I don’t want to paint myself into a corner creatively. I simply write and play what I enjoy and hope IMMORTALIZER fans will enjoy it as well!

IMMORTALIZER: Lemmy (Official Music Video)

There are many loud metal songs on your work, like the tribute track  and excellent example for “Lemmy”. Tell me something more about that particular song?

As a huge Motörhead fan (now over 20 years worth), I greatly admired Lemmy and was so saddened by his passing. When the 5th anniversary of his death was coming up, I decided to make a tribute song for him and released it on the day of. I tried to write a song Lemmy himself would have enjoyed, so it definitely has more of a Motörhead style feel. Phil Campbell from Motörhead gave it a like which meant so much to me. I’m very proud of that song and can’t wait to show IMMORTALIZER fans the album version which has re-recorded drums, bass and vocals. Plus, this time around Ralf will be engineering, mixing and mastering the track!

So, anything else you want to say for your fans who eagerly await the new album?

Absolutely! First I’d like to thank each and every IMMORTALIZER fan for their continued support! You are the best!! I love you all! \m/

That’s all! Thanks for your time.
