Canadian extreme thrash titans Korrosive have announced they will not be appearing at this year’s Rage of Armageddon Festival in Brooklyn, NY, due to serious concerns over safety and international tensions. The news comes as a heavy blow to U.S. fans eagerly anticipating the band’s live return—but underscores the real-world obstacles underground metal bands can face when politics collide with art.
In a public statement, the band shared the difficult decision was made to prioritize their safety in light of “power-tripping border agents refusing entries” and ongoing “political unrest between the US and Iran.” Two of Korrosive’s members are of Persian descent—one born in Iran—and the band cited fear of undue scrutiny at the border due to their names and heritage.
“Putting ourselves at risk—regardless of how big or small—is something we cannot do as a band, and as brothers,” the band said. “We wish we didn’t have to make this decision, but if and when this all blows over, we will mark our return to that very stage.”
Despite the setback, Korrosive’s momentum in the metal underground is anything but slowing down . Earlier this year, the band released “Kaustic in the Capital (Live)” via CDN Records , a blistering live album capturing the band’s furious 2021 performance of their debut full-length Kaustic Hordes in Ottawa. The album is a feral, unfiltered document of Korrosive’s onstage assault—packed with fan favorites like “Slaughter the Preacher” and “Acidized.”
In tandem with that, their most recent studio release, Katastrophic Creation , is turning heads with the incendiary single “امام در آتش” (“Imam Immolation”) —a politically charged anthem inspired by the ongoing unrest in Iran. Bold, blistering, and unafraid to tackle hard truths, Korrosive continues to assert themselves as one of Canada’s most vital extreme metal exports.
While fans may not see them on U.S. soil this year, Korrosive’s message is clear : the fire still burns, and they will return.
