Cumbia-punk duo LUCHA LUNA’s self-released debut album BRILLA BRILLA lit a fire in Seattle last month and the group haven’t stopped to look back. Mixing elements of latin percussion, heavy 808 bass, electro synths from producer/musician Thomas Arndt and exquisite vocals ranging from singer Eva Vazquez combining vibrant reggaeton flows and screaming punk rage, Lucha Luna is the band for this moment.
Today the group present their lyrics video for the track “Manzana Prohibida” (translates as forbidden apple).
After a blowout Release Party at Baba Yaga in Seattle, alongside local artists Bloqueador Solar, Kataniica and DJ La Mala Noche, Lucha Luna has quickly asserted themselves as a local upstart to watch, charting #1 on KEXP’s Top Played Artists the first week of the release, hitting dozens of NACC charts across the country, and swiftly reaching audiences from Spain to Poland to Brazil. They received recognition from Tucson’s zine/music reviewer Trial and ErrorCollective, playlist Sounds of Saving, STG Presents, KEXP’s “New Music Tuesday,” “In Our Headphones” and “International Clash Day” and “A New Latin World” on Radio Free Brooklyn.
