Portuguese black/death metal band Azzaya have released their new two-track single “Ira / Glory Upon Thee” today. The release is self-released and available digitally.
The single brings together two different moments in the band’s history.
“Ira” is taken from Azzaya‘s upcoming full-length “The Apostasy of Michael” and represents the direction the band are currently pushing towards, keeping their aggression intact while taking their sound into new territory.
“Glory Upon Thee” revisits one of Azzaya’s earliest tracks. Originally featured on the split “Tainted Hordes of Sathariel” and written by original guitarist Körmös, the song has now been reworked with the bass-heavy approach that has become central to the band’s more recent material. The new version also features guest vocals from Mónica Coelho.
Azzaya describe their approach as blasphemous, bass-heavy and visceral black/death metal. “Ira / Glory Upon Thee” places that identity in two different settings, with one track looking towards the band’s next album and the other returning to their earlier material.
A new music video is also being released today alongside the single.
