SLADE BROOKS finds the missing pieces to become whole again on new EP

SLADE BROOKS is back with a brand new EP. The Missing Piece of My Darkened Heartmarks his second album to date. The collection features the 5 singles: “Stomp Yo Feet” “Detox” “House” “Chemistry” and “Reasons Why”. With a runtime of about 22 minutes Slade has packed a range of genres into the mix; pop-punk, darkwave, hip-hop, EDM, and funk.

Brooks shares, “I’ve always wanted to be one of those artists that covers a wide variety of genres. I want you to go ‘You mean the same guy who does this song… is the same guy that did that song?!” The Missing Piece… was the construct of Slade’s love for electronic music such as 90’s house, electro, and EBM, fused with the rock’n’roll story telling of alternative rock. The songs on this EP are about past relationships, addiction, self- reflection, and unity during protests. “I’m out to find the perfect marriage between electronic music, human emotion, and rock’n’roll storytelling.“

“It starts with a tight kick drum. That’s the heartbeat of the song.The music can go either way. Sometimes you need that stiff octave bass pass part dead on time to get people on the dance floor. Sometimes you need an actual bass player to improvise funk to get that human feeling. EDM has this habit of using a minimal amount of lyrics. I don’t want to do that. I want to write pages and pages of lyrics to find just the right words. You can say something a million ways but there is bound to be one way that will stick with an audience till the end of time.”

The cover art features a color pencil piece Slade drew that he named “The Missing Piece of My Darkened Heart”. “I drew that picture… I named it… and the title stuck. The songs on the record are just that. The songs were MY missing pieces and the characters in the songs were missing something from their lives, whether it’s finding unity during times of protests or making that tough decision to let someone go in your time of recovery from addiction.”
