Turku, Finland – Progressive metal outfit Sum of Seven step into their most ambitious chapter yet with the release of their new concept album Echoes of the Hypermind , arriving May 15, 2026 via Inverse Records.
Blending intricate musicianship with emotional weight, Echoes of the Hypermind dives deeper into the band’s signature mix of soaring melodies, sharp-edged riffs, and layered storytelling. Fans of Haken, Threshold, and Vola will find plenty to sink their teeth into here, but make no mistake, Sum of Seven are carving their own lane.
Originally formed in Turku under the name Sonus Corona, the band began as a no-pressure project between friends. What started as a passion-driven outlet quickly evolved into something much bigger, fueled by a shared vision to create music that challenges the mind while still hitting hard on stage. Their early work caught attention fast, and their 2019 full-length Time Is Not On Your Side was featured in Prog Magazine with positive remarks, including being described as “very impressive.” It also caught the attention of Finland’s Inferno , earning a very strong review.
Then came the kind of setbacks that break bands.
The pandemic stalled momentum. A key lineup change hit at the worst possible time. And just as they were closing in on finishing their new album in 2024, guitarist and main composer Ari Lempinen was involved in a serious accident that nearly ended everything.
Most bands wouldn’t come back from that.
Sum of Seven did.
With new vocalist Marko Loukamaa now firmly at the helm and the band tighter than ever, they fought their way back, culminating in a triumphant return to the stage in September 2025 at a packed hometown show in Turku. That same resilience runs through every second of Echoes of the Hypermind .
