Exploring the chaos of the cosmos, GRAVITY CHASM unleash a thrilling progressive take on technical death metal. Unpredictable in nature, the band’s debut EP fuses dissonance, intricate melodies and monumental textural sounds to produce an untamable sonic display of entropy. Commenting on the album and the band’s creative direction, drummer Chris Coleman shares: “We wanted to create something that would challenge ourselves as musicians, but still be a fun and enjoyable experience for the listener. Something that both the staunch genre nerds (like us) and the casual metal fan can appreciate.” Taylor continues, “Authenticity really takes the center stage here and I think that especially given today’s current climate on all the recent technological advances that are finding their way into the music industry that people will really be able to connect with that genuinity. We may be Sci-Fi in theme, but we’re still just some Earthlings. DIY > Ai”
Gravity Chasm opens with the crushing intensity of “Catastrophic Supernova” followed by the thunderous “Sassquelch” and unrelenting “Life Cycle”. Delving further into the Avant Garde, “Psilocybinary (It’s Majick!)” sees GRAVITY CHASM’s jazz influences come to the forefront. “Dilated Time” leaves behind any semblance of order, before “Decompiled” unleashes a brutal assault and a deep philosophical questioning of the human construct of time.
Recorded at Swine Studios, Gravity Chasm was produced, mixed and mastered by Wade Taylor, with the album’s cover art created by Giannis Nakos.
About GRAVITY CHASM:
The brainchild of Spencer (Spanky) Ferguson, GRAVITY CHASM materialized in 2024, with Wade Taylor (Vocals), Cameron Broomfield (bass guitar), and Chris Coleman (drums). With members based out of Texas, Arizona and Alabama, US, the band’s debut, self-titled EP unveils the extreme forces of their own distinctive take on technical death metal.
Inspired by their peers, notably VIREMIA, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, DECAPITATED, and NECROPHAGIST, GRAVITY CHASM produce a dynamic fusion through incorporating melodic intricacies lending from mathcore, fluidity and chaos influences from jazz and funk, as well as atmospheric electronic soundscapes.
