V★SILVER explores themes of empowerment and intimacy on debut album “The Cost of Light & Everything I Couldn’t Say”

FFO: Phoebe Bridgers, Cat Power, Liz Phair, Elliott Smith, Smashing Pumpkins

RIYL: alt-folk, rock, alternative, alt-pop

New York City NY – V★SILVER is the New York–based shimmering alter ego of singer, songwriter, and record producer Vanessa Silberman. Her music fuses prism-colored alt-pop with pastel-glossed, blooming melodies, radiant synths, cinematic textures, and raw, honest lyrics that build emotional tension through heart-forward storytelling.

On her EP Side A, “The Cost of Light”, V★Silver (aka songwriter and Producer Vanessa Silberman) explored the brighter, pop-facing half of the album, touching on themes of empowerment, courage, beauty, ambition, and emotional connection, while also wrestling with the sacrifices required to evolve and live fully in the light.

Her fourth self-produced single, Love Love Love, Silberman explored the topic of external validation and the love we often seek outside ourselves — even though true love is ultimately an inside job. The production draws inspiration from ’80s pop and processed vocals, pushing Silberman to step outside her comfort zone and experiment with new vocal effects and nuances.

Side B, “Everything I Couldn’t Say”, the second half of the full-length album “The Cost of Light and Everything I Couldn’t Say”, she explores a rawer, more bare-bones, and quieter side of sound, using acoustic guitar, country-inspired textures, hypnotic percussion, haunting strings, airy synths, harps, and at times just Vanessa accompanied by guest cellist Michelle Rose. The arrangements support an empowering yet vulnerable message — from embracing individuality, questioning politics, speaking your truth, and softly letting go of heartbreak.

In particular, “Letting Go Really Really Slow”, the focus track is about moving through the end of a relationship, which can be emotionally difficult for people to let go of sometimes, especially when caught in a negative cycle or loop. It’s hard when you really love someone and something just isn’t working. It can be painful to pull the plug, so often it ends up being pulled so painfully slowly that by the time you reach the end, you feel numb, and it becomes hard to process anything because you have been so deep in it.

Musically, the song tries to capture that vulnerability through intimate, close-up vocals accompanied only by acoustic guitar and cello, creating a sadness that often teeters on the edge of rawness, with even the tuning helping to carry the emotion.

“Everything I Couldn’t Say is billed as the more meditative side of the album, trading in the glittering synth pop textures of Side A for a plaintive sound rooted in acoustic instrumentation and vulnerable lyricism.”– Under the Radar
