WARHOG, the fierce four-piece metal band hailing from Dallas, Texas, is back with The Dystopian Chronicles, Vol. 2, an EP that takes listeners even deeper into the band’s vision of dark and uncertain futures. Emerging from the shadows of their acclaimed Chronicles, Vol. 1, this second volume expands upon the themes of struggle, survival, and dystopia, adding a haunting emotional depth and stylistic range that’s destined to resonate with fans of heavy, thought-provoking music.
Since forming in early 2020, WARHOG has been on a relentless quest to craft heavy music with universal appeal. From their pandemic-era remote sessions emerged Call of the Voyager, the album that first showcased their ability to channel aggressive riffs and melodic storytelling. Drawing on influences like IRON MAIDEN, BLACK SABBATH, PANTERA, and MASTODON, WARHOG carved out their sound with a potent blend of gritty rhythms and theatrical atmosphere. For the band, it’s never been about sticking to a single metal subgenre; they want to pull everyone into their world, to make metal that appeals to even those who didn’t come to the show for the head-banging. WARHOG’s approach has already brought them to larger stages, opening for the likes of CRYPTA and, in June 2024, DROWNING POOL.
With The Dystopian Chronicles, Vol. 2, WARHOG dives headfirst into the raw edges of possible futures. The EP opens with “Eulogy,” a slow-burn, doomy anthem that explores the immense silence following the death of a star. It’s a track that feels like gazing into a cosmic void and sets a somber, heavy tone for the rest of the EP. The single “Artificial Echoes” then transports listeners into a futuristic world where mechanical voices blend with human echoes, blurring the lines between life and simulation. This is quickly followed by the uncompromising “Kill or Die Trying,” which delves into themes of struggle, resistance, and survival, told from the perspective of military grunts entrenched in an endless space war against a relentless alien enemy.
The EP’s closing track, “Lost Colony,” stands out for its near ten-minute runtime and unusual instrumentation. Acoustic guitars and lush string arrangements weave through the track, capturing the desolate beauty of an abandoned outpost left to the elements. WARHOG’s music is often described as “theatrical and atmospheric,” and “Lost Colony” might be the best testament to that yet—a cinematic experience that could stand as a story all its own.
WARHOG sees The Dystopian Chronicles series as a long-form exploration of our current turbulent world and the potential darkness ahead. Each song spotlights a facet of humanity’s less-than-savory qualities—obsession, violence, a lust for power, and the inevitable lies that fuel them. With The Dystopian Chronicles, Vol. 2, WARHOG continues their journey, breaking barriers in heavy music and bringing their cinematic, genre-blending sound to the masses. This EP marks another chapter in a story that’s only just beginning—one that promises to captivate, haunt, and challenge listeners with every release.
About WARHOG
WARHOG is a North Texas-based progressive metal band founded in 2020, blending relentless riffs, cinematic storytelling, and darkly atmospheric themes. Born out of remote collaboration during the pandemic, WARHOG burst onto the metal scene with their debut album, Call of the Voyager, which introduced their distinctive sound—a mix of heavy rhythms, melodic vocals, and intricate compositions that appeal to both hardcore metal fans and broader audiences.
Comprising vocalist and guitarist Scott Beetley, guitarist Eric Kendall, bassist Justin Hopper, and drummer Robert Powers, WARHOG draws inspiration from heavy metal icons like IRON MAIDEN, BLACK SABBATH, and PANTERA, while weaving in the progressive influence of MASTODON. Their music is both powerful and accessible, with a mission to reach every listener in the room, not just those who came for a metal show. With each release, WARHOG aims to expand metal’s reach and make fans out of everyone, from die-hard headbangers to those just discovering the genre.
Their intense, theatrical shows have won critical praise for being “strongly atmospheric” and “head-noddingly addictive.” As WARHOG continues to evolve, they remain dedicated to creating heavy music with universal appeal, using every track and every performance to connect with new fans and to shape a sound that’s unmistakably their own.
