JESSE BLAKE RUNDLE writes sad boy songs—but he’s not actually sad, most of the time. His latest single “Eyes” waxes the eternally burning question “Should I leave or should I stay?” when wanting to see everything before time runs out.
Pondering the subtleties within the song’s lyrics, Rundle reflects, “Eyes came about while I was feeling stuck. Stuck in my relationship, my job, my city. I was just tired and wanted a fresh start, while I feared leaving all I’d built behind.
I tried to meditate on what that would feel like to walk those streets and taste the air and see new sights. It was a beautiful dream, and helped me answer the question about whether I was ready to leave, or whether I loved what I already had.
“Eyes” was recorded in the sessions for my album ‘Wait, Sky’. It didn’t find a place on the tracklist because it carries a bit more of an optimistic forward looking energy, versus the introspection of the album. So it’s coming out now as a standalone single.”
