Canadian death metal powerhouse Harvested continues to build anticipation for their upcoming album, “Dysthymia,” with the release of a new lyric video for “The Infestiation.” This new track exemplifies the band’s thematic shift toward exploring mental illness through a psychological lens, moving beyond their previous gore-focused approach to tackle the brutal realities of mental health struggles. The band shares about the song:
“The final track of the album, we saved one of our best for last. It has been influenced by bands such as Cannibal Corpse and Deicide, among others. It’s also the longest track length in this release. The song describes mental illness on a more political scale and has an influence globally. Which direction is our world heading when being governed by psychopaths? It all pertains to mental illness at the end of the day, which is the recurring theme of this band’s lyrical approach.”
Vocalist Adam Semler goes on to explain that all of the lyrics on this release are about mental illness, and are heavily inspired by horror and thriller movies/shows, and things that he’s unfortunately watched a few close friends go through. The music is dark and has an impact on driving the lyrical content and direction.
“The Infestation” showcases the band’s evolved sound, a seamless integration of technical death metal prowess with brutal and slam elements. The track demonstrates why early comparisons to influences like Dying Fetus, Deicide, and Suffocation continue to resonate, while highlighting the band’s unique identity within the Canadian death metal scene.
“Dysthymia” will be released August 1st, 2025, marking a new chapter for the Canadian death metallers who are positioning themselves as a formidable force in the international extreme metal scene.
