Doom Takes Over The Airwaves: Sun Mantra, Black Moon Cult & Tommy Stewart Join The Zach Moonshine Show For a Night of Fuzz, Riffs, and Rituals

This past Friday night, The Zach Moonshine Show delivered a colossal blow to the underground doom scene with a double-header broadcast featuring two of the most talked-about acts in modern underground heavy music: Sun Mantra and Black Moon Cult , along with legendary Tommy Stewart of Black Doomba Records and Hallows Eve .

Segment One: Sun Mantra – Live from Knoxville

Fresh off their appearance at Maryland Doom Fest, Knoxville’s rising psych-doom power trio Sun Mantra joined the show for an exclusive post-show interview. The band talked about their journey since being booked for TMDMF before even having music out, their wild merch ideas (including naked Twister at their booth), and their return to the fest this year with a vengeance. Drummer Leo discussed recovering from surgery and plans for a new record, while the entire group paid heartfelt homage to the legacy of Black Sabbath , reflecting on the emotional weight of their final performance.

Sun Mantra’s dedication to capturing a raw, fuzzy, and emotionally resonant sound has solidified them as one of doom’s fastest-rising forces. Whether it’s through hypnotic grooves or stoner-laced tone worship, they’re carving a path that’s equal parts spiritual and crushing.

Segment Two: Black Moon Cult & Tommy Stewart – Doom, Vinyl, and Cosmic Conspiracies

In the second hour, Kaleb Riser of Black Moon Cult and Tommy Stewart of Black Doomba Records joined the show to dig into their unique sonic approach and label journey. Kaleb revealed that Ophidian Future (The Children of Yig) was recorded live in an 1800s church with no click tracks or digital tricks — just amps, mics, and air moving through sacred space. Their music blends psychedelic textures, Sabbath-heavy riffs, and cosmic lore with lyrical nods to Lovecraft, David Icke, and biblical serpent mythology.

Tommy Stewart shared how he signed the band on the spot at Maryland Doom Fest after being blown away by their live show — a rare impulse move for the seasoned label head. The crew also reminisced about their early musical influences (Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, Sabbath, Death), and even gave listeners a laugh talking about the band’s newest merch: custom Black Moon Cult condoms .

 Closing Thoughts:

Between the passion of Sun Mantra and the vision of Black Moon Cult, this episode was a celebration of everything underground music represents: DIY ethos, sonic exploration, and community built on riffs and authenticity. Tommy Stewart’s insights into the music biz, paired with his raw love for emotion-driven performances, made for an unforgettable night.

Whether you’re a doom lifer, gear nerd, or Sabbath disciple — this show delivered a heavy dose of fuzz-fueled truth.
