Athens, Greece — nou (pronounced NOO) returns with his new single “The Cathedral”, a track that dives deeper into the artist’s shift toward an electronic sound, blending synth-driven production, intense beats, and rap-influenced vocals.
Inspired by the homonymous work of J.K. Huysmans, the track’s title carries a dual meaning, also referring to nou’s personal studio in Piraeus — a space of strong emotional and creative significance for him.
The initial idea for “The Cathedral” was born during a summer writing camp, where the project’s new musical direction first began to take shape. In its early stages, the track was developed in collaboration with nou’s brother Dimitris Vlasopoulos (Deaf Radio, The Man and His Failures), marking also the first use of sequencers in the core beat — an element that defines its rhythmic identity.
Production was handled by Nikkolas Dashy, who elevated the track by incorporating dynamic drum & bass elements, powerful electronic basslines, and a distinctive sonic aesthetic with glitch textures. Beat repeats, “broken” vocals, and distorted layers create a modern, aggressive sound environment.
Although the original intention was to exclude guitars entirely, their final addition proved crucial, providing the missing element that completes the track. A distinctive guitar “leak,” described by the producer as “Piraeus-rebetiko,” bridges the electronic core with nou’s organic identity.
The lyrics are once again written by Artemis Baltoyanni, a close collaborator who has played a key role in shaping nou’s discography.
The music video for “The Cathedral” marks the directorial debut of Alexandros Kassavetis, bringing a fresh visual perspective to the project. “The Cathedral” is the next single from the upcoming EP Digital Burger (out June 26th on Panik Records), continuing the exploration of a more electronic, rhythm-driven, and experimental sound.
nou is an electro-industrial artist based in Athens, blending high-energy live performances with electronic-driven production. Formerly known as The Page of Cups, nou is moving forward under a new name that reflects a clearer artistic identity and a stronger shift toward synth-based sounds, rhythmic intensity, and hybrid composition.
His sound moves between distorted guitars, driving rhythms, layers of synthesizers, and immersive samples, creating a balance between the raw energy of a band and the experimentation of electronic music.
While the creative process is increasingly focused on electronic composition, nou’s live shows remain intense and immersive, featuring a full band setup with an emphasis on collective on-stage energy — a key element of the project’s identity.
