HORSEFIGHT bears witness to people using their “Holy Ghost” to justify questionable actions

Seattle WA — “Holy Ghost” sees Seattle alt-garage trio HORSEFIGHT making good on their goal of merging the Pixies with the Stones, but this time it’s more on-the-nose than ever and leaning more towards the sounds of early ‘90s college rock radio acts.

Featuring a heavily-syncopated chorus, a quiet-loud-quiet song structure, and call-and response vocal lines from guitarist/vocalist Greg Wood and bassist/vocalist Sabine Bischofberger— “Holy Ghost” draws the inevitable Pixies comparisons.

Ghost” draws the inevitable Pixies comparisons.

This time around, the group has more gumption, crunch, and a dynamically unhinged sound.  Lyrically, the track reflects “people looking to let themselves off the hook,” says the song’s author Wood.

Elaborating further, Wood shares, “It’s about how people turn to religion, astrology, maybe even pyramid schemes or cults as a way of not having to think, or to justify otherwise questionable actions they’re already taking.  Both the bridge and chorus are about how all those things will betray you, though.”

“Honestly I just wanted to explore a more aggressive sound.  I wouldn’t say our sound has changed much, overall,” he adds, “but expect everything that we do in the near future to be a little wilder, or at least more unhinged.”

Horsefight are currently recording a new EP to be released in 2026.

HORSEFIGHT began rocking in Seattle in 2023.  Striving to meld late ‘60s and early ‘70s classic rock with an early ‘90s alternative/college rock sound, their efforts sound like if the Stones met the Pixies, the Velvet Underground with Dinosaur Jr.’s solos, or T. Rex after jamming out to Pavement.

Guitarist/vocalist Greg Wood, bassist/vocalist Sabine Bischofberger, and drummer Fred Ness have played shows regularly in and around Seattle, at venues like Sunset Tavern, Central Saloon, Blue Moon Tavern, Mountain Room, and Darrell’s Tavern, among others.

The groups debut EP “Volunteer” was released in February 2025, led by the singles “Cease and Desist,” “Free Time,” and “Anhedonia,” which all received considerable airplay on college and non-commercial radio stations throughout the US and Canada.

Secretly they’re trying to write the best song that was never on the Clueless soundtrack.
