HORSEFIGHT shows their classic rock influences on “No Reason At All”

Alternative-garage rock band HORSEFIGHT, whose schtick has been merging the Pixies and the Stones ever since their debut EP released in February 2025, is dropping a new single from their upcoming EP.

“We flipped a coin, with one side being the Pixies and the other being the Stones,” vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Greg Wood says. “This time it came up Stones.”

The new single “No Reason At All” certainly has a Stonesy foundation, but clearly draws from other classic rock sounds like Alice Cooper, Foghat, and Aerosmith.  But that’s not to say the ‘90s influence is absent. There’s a touch of early Built to Spill on the vocals, and a heap of Pixies guitar tone and attitude throughout the track.

Bassist Sabine Bischofberger lays down a pounding bass line, anchoring the song’s polyrhythm, while drummer Fred Ness draws his parts straight off of the Stones’ masterpiece Exile on Main Street. Wood takes a simple-yet-elegant solo, getting the point across with few notes but full power.

“Holy Ghost (the band’s first single from the upcoming EP) really captures our reckless ‘90s spirit,” says Wood. “This single shows our classic rock influence.  And lyrically, it’s just as nihilistic as ever, if not more so.”

The track is a clear nod to significant rock acts from yesteryear, which seemingly has become the horsefight mission statement.

horsefight will release a new EP in March, chock full of their trademark blend of ‘90s alternative goodness mixed with classic homage.

HORSEFIGHT live date:

HORSEFIGHT began rocking in Seattle in 2023.  Striving to meld late ‘60s and early ‘70s classic rock with an early ‘90s alternative/college rock sound, their efforts sound like if the Stones met the Pixies, the Velvet Underground with Dinosaur Jr.’s solos, or T. Rex after jamming out to Pavement.

Guitarist/vocalist Greg Wood, bassist/vocalist Sabine Bischofberger, and drummer Fred Ness have played shows regularly in and around Seattle, at venues like Sunset Tavern, Central Saloon, Blue Moon Tavern, Mountain Room, and Darrell’s Tavern, among others.

The groups debut EP “Volunteer” was released in February 2025, led by the singles “Cease and Desist,” “Free Time,” and “Anhedonia,” which all received considerable airplay on college and non-commercial radio stations throughout the US and Canada.

Secretly they’re trying to write the best song that was never on the Clueless soundtrack.
