ROLLER DOME’s “Still Feral” weighs the tension between sorrow and joy in a time of darkness

Boise ID – The world didn’t get tamer. Neither did Roller Dome.

The Boise band’s second full-length goes deeper: bigger bass, heavier layers, guitars and keys building something massive beneath Gia Trotter’s unmistakable voice. The songs are built collaboratively, the band shaping and refining each riff into something distinctly Roller Dome. Still Feralknows where it’s going—and won’t be domesticated along the way.

Trotter says, “The songs are a continuation of the exploring of love and loss and not just personal relationships but the love and loss happening so overtly in the world right now…” Still Feral holds the pain and joy of living through a time that can feel hopeless, and the solace of making something expressive anyway. For Trotter, music remains a way to process, speak out, and stay grounded.

The tension between rage and tenderness, darkness and openness runs throughout the record. On “Took Care,” written for Trotter’s sister Tristan, the lyrics speak of putting away rage long enough to open the heart again: “Open up that space you hold, in your heart for all this love.” “Empathy” looks at how exhausting it can be to make space for the darkness we all carry.

That’s part of what Still Feral means to Trotter: still learning, still evolving, still wild. Not escaping the maelstrom but staying alive within it.

Roller Dome has become a force in the Northwest heavy-rock community, playing Treefort Music Fest annually since 2022 and sharing stages with Spoon Benders, Death Valley Girls, Slothrust, Cloakroom, and Pink Fuzz. Trotter also co-created We Came to Eat: A Northwest Femme-Led Rock Comp, the 2024 vinyl-only compilation celebrating femme-led bands from across the Northwest (also on My My Records).

Still Feral features Trotter on vocals and guitar, Nick Schug on lead guitar, Cory Hentrup on keyboards, Robert Reeves on drums, and Aaron Blanchard on bass. Written by Roller Dome, the album was recorded by Jared Goodpaster at Up Is Louder in Boise, mixed by Lilian Blair, Mike Vera, and Goodpaster, with mastering by Rob Dennler.

Released in June 2026 on My My Records, Still Feral includes singles “Raking Me Over” and “Empathy,” with album artwork by Asa Cosloy (CD) and Brooke Warner (cassette).

Roller Dome called their first album Ripped. Three years later, they’re Still Feral.
