TRIPPY HEARTS "Sweet Crash" braces for whatever will fall from the sky next

TRIPPY HEARTS new single “Sweet Crash” began as a voice memo named after a cymbal — a working title that stuck. At its center is the question, “Do you hold your heart like a fist?”

“Sweet Crash” lives within that tension. Hyper-vigilance feels protective. We “tether people to the ground to keep them around” in hopes of permanence and certainty. We brace for whatever will fall out of the sky next — headlines, losses, meteors. The trio wrote it to feel their way through a hard stretch, the way they often do. Not to deny that the sky might fall — but to unclench before it does.

“Loosen fists. Loosen grips. Let’s feel our way until the next thing hits.”

“Sweet Crash” is built upon drummer Stephen Samuelson’s steady groove, with vocalist Jenn Sutkowski’s keys carrying the bass line, and Brent Heiner’s guitar shimmering before it hits hard. The track expands into a loud, open space by the end — not safety exactly, but release.

“I think a lot about the Zen idea of ‘Let go or be dragged,’” Sutkowski says. “I tend to ‘Press it under glass so it won’t move’ as the lyric goes here. But there’s no real safety in shrinking and holding tight. I need to remind myself to let go, even if it’s one finger at a time. And that we can feel our way through whatever comes, together.”

“Sweet Crash” from Boise trio Trippy Hearts is releasing on March 13th, 2026, ahead of the group’s upcoming sophomore album, Murmuration, out in late Spring
