Alt-garage trio HORSEFIGHT is back on the scene, releasing their sophomore EP titled Haunted.
“When we first started, we had this gimmick of mixing the Rolling Stones with the Pixies,” guitarist/vocalist Greg Wood says. “This time around we added another element to our creative process: songs that were in Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” he adds. “I don’t think we’ve actually pulled any of that off completely, but the influence of those three sounds is definitely present on the new EP.”
“We wanted a larger sound on this album, so we got some new amps, focused on adding harmonies whenever it would work, and paid closer attention to the details of production,” he adds.
This sonic expansion is highly evident all throughout their follow up to 2025’s debut EP, Volunteer. Crunchier guitars and striking harmonies are brought to the forefront throughout. Bassist Sabine Bischofberger sings backup on most songs, her voice melding perfectly with Wood’s lead vocals as their vocal lines ebb and flow from overlapping to spanning in different directions.
Songs like “Holy Ghost” and “Ways to Die” showcase the band’s wilder side, with heavy guitars and frantic pacing, anchored by two-part harmony throughout. drummer Fred Ness drives these wilder songs with a much larger sound and more involved parts than in the band’s previous works.
The band also expanded their songwriting on tracks like “So Much Less Than You Bargained For”, which happens to be their shortest song yet, but also with their longest title! The structure of the verse is unconventional, and rings similar to The Pixies or The Breeders. Timing and phrasing throughout the track branch out heavily from anything they’ve done before. “It’s so much less than you bargained for/it’s all worth less than it was before/plummeting every day/as values always change,” Wood sings. Lyrically it could just as easily be about actual finances as it could social currency or societal worth.
The 5-song EP closes with the track “Alternative Rock (From 1995 or 6)”, which Wood says “could be seen as mocking bands of a certain era, but it’s actually my love song to some of the first music I was ever obsessed with.” The track sounds like it’s straight out of 1995 and could’ve easily been on Weezer’s debut album, with a pounding four-chord chorus rehashing the title. Lyrically, it references its own musical construction in a highly meta fashion.
Although Haunted leans more into alternative rock territory, the classic rock influence still shows up on the track “No Reason at All”. “I was trying to mix “Rocks Off” by the Stones with “Debaser” by The Pixies, but ended up with something that sounds like Alice Cooper,” Wood jokes. The track about a motiveless villain is definitely reminiscent of rock from the ‘70s, especially in its intricate yet simple guitar solo.
Overall, Haunted showcases a band who’s locked in their sound and found their direction, and is lunging towards it with creamy distortion, punchy bass lines, large drum sounds, and two-part harmony.
Haunted EP will release digitally on Friday, March 13th, 2026.

HORSEFIGHT began rocking in Seattle in 2023. Striving to meld late ‘60s and early ‘70s classic rock with an early ‘90s alternative/college rock sound, their efforts sound like if the Stones met the Pixies, the Velvet Underground with Dinosaur Jr.’s solos, or T. Rex after jamming out to Pavement.
Guitarist/vocalist Greg Wood, bassist/vocalist Sabine Bischofberger, and drummer Fred Ness have played shows regularly in and around Seattle, at venues like Sunset Tavern, Central Saloon, Blue Moon Tavern, Mountain Room, and Darrell’s Tavern, among others.
The groups debut EP “Volunteer” was released in February 2025, led by the singles “Cease and Desist,” “Free Time,” and “Anhedonia,” which all received considerable airplay on college and non-commercial radio stations throughout the US and Canada.
Secretly they’re trying to write the best song that was never on the Clueless soundtrack.
