OGRE “Hair” about the biological relevance of hair growing on heads and crotches

The starkly abrasive single “Hair” from PNW trio OGRE is both plodding and groovy, its hypnotic lockstep riff driving straight into sonic landmines of abrasive passages, leaving Grace’s militant vocal stylings unperturbed.

The track’s angular, arty funkiness recalls a noise-rock spin on Devo or Gang of Four. It’s new sonic territory for Ogre and marks Grace’s arrival as a distinct voice within the band.

“Early on, Nils and I were the main vocalists, but turning it over to Grace on this track opens up thrilling new dimensions,” Ace says.

“I’m like the George Harrison of the band, ” Grace jokes.

“Hair” was written just a week before the trio went into the studio—a sweetly silly, scattershot piece penned after Grace finished beauty school, which she’d been attending throughout the making of Bryan.

“It’s about the biological relevance of hair growing on heads and crotches—it kind of came out gross,” she laughs. Musically, the track also underscores the power of the band’s two-bass attack.

“Grace really set Ace free. He can get experimental with noise while she lays down the foundation,” Nils explains. Here, Grace holds down the pocket, drawing on her love of Motown, dub, and krautrock, while Ace fires off caustic splatters of grit and grime.

OGRE’s new single “Hair” will release digitally on CorpoRAT Records on March 13th, 2026.

“Ogre isn’t aiming to be defined. You could call the three-piece’s sound noise rock, maybe even hardcore—two basses jabbing through a cacophony of pedals and amps, ejecting as razor sharp, with drums erupting in a kind of 360-degree projectile fury. But Ogre isn’t really crafting genre-based songs; they’re more interested in pure sonics, in building a world—one with a somewhat chaotic sound.” –Willamette Week

“Before Ogre plays a note, their amplifiers hiss like digital snakes waiting to strike. Ogre is Ace (bass), Grace (bass), and Nils (drums). We could tell you that Ogre uses two basses, three vocal mics, a synthesizer, a few duffel bags worth of guitar pedals, and a drum kit, but that would do their aural onslaught a disservice. Ogre is more than the sum of their decimated parts. Ogre is waiting to strike.” Stumpgrown

OGRE is:
Grace Crane – rhythm bass, vocals
Ace Jennings – lead bass, vocals
